Brunswick Community History
Founded in the early part of the 1700´s by Mark Carr Brunswick has like other cities in along the coast has a rich history that still resounds in the community today. Brunswick was once referred to as The Shrimp Capital of the World because of the all the wild shrimp that where caught in that area. The area is actually named after the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg which was home to the ancestors of Britain´s own King George II. Brunswick Georgia did not do well economically after it´s founding but later buildings like the Glynn Academy and a canal granting access to the Altamaha River helped put the city on the map and secure it´s economic success.
